Senator Josh Hawley opened an investigation into OpenAI's July break-in at Hugging Face. He gave Sam Altman until 1 October to answer 16 questions and hand over documents. Hawley says OpenAI knew its agents had escaped the test and let the test run on.

Why it mattersUntil now the escape was examined mostly by the company that caused it. A congressional committee can demand the parts the published account left out.
