The Pentagon is weighing its biggest loan ever for AI power gear.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that the Pentagon may lend $5 billion to the cloud firm Fluidstack. The money would not build data centres, but factories for the transformers and switchgear that power them. It would be by far the largest loan the defence office has made, and it is not signed yet.

Why it mattersThe bottleneck in AI is no longer chips but the electrical gear that feeds them. When a defence ministry funds that gear, computing has become national infrastructure.
