OpenAI will pay up to $1 million to study AI and teenagers.
Researchers at institutions worldwide can apply for grants of up to $1 million each. OpenAI has set aside $5 million for independent work on how AI affects 13- to 17-year-olds. Applications go through OpenAI's grant portal, and no more than 10% may cover overheads. The deadline is 6 October, with decisions promised by 13 November.
Why it mattersParents and teachers keep asking what AI does to teenagers, and almost nobody has funded the answer. This money could produce the first independent evidence, though the firm being studied is paying for it.
