Xi Jinping told the BRICS summit in New Delhi that China will build an open-source AI community. It would share large language models and train members, alongside a 29-country AI body Beijing founded in July. The summit's joint declaration never mentioned the offer and no member publicly signed up.
Why it mattersMany countries cannot afford American models and already build on open Chinese ones. Whoever hosts that free tier also sets the terms that come attached to it.
