Most of Anthropic's $81 billion loss exists only on paper.

Most of Anthropic's $81 billion loss exists only on paper.

Anthropic's IPO filing on Monday shows $72.4 billion of the loss is an accounting charge, not cash spent. Revenue jumped to $16.3 billion in the first half, with a $974 million operating profit from April to June. The share price is not set, and the Wall Street Journal expects trading in mid-November.

Why it mattersFor the first time, anyone can read how much a leading AI lab really earns and spends. Even after listing, the seven co-founders keep 50.1% of the votes, so buyers get shares but little say.
