WIRED reported on Friday that OpenAI asked lawmakers whether a joint industry slowdown breaks antitrust law. Chief executive Sam Altman told staff this week he would slow down if rival labs did too. Its chief scientist publicly called for that coordination on 6 September, and no answer has come.
