OpenAI is giving $5 million to study teenagers and chatbots.

OpenAI opened a $5 million grant fund for independent research on 13 to 17 year olds and AI. Universities, non-profits and government agencies may apply, but for-profit firms are not a priority. Single grants run up to $1 million, with overhead capped at a tenth of each award. Applications close on 6 October, and OpenAI will answer by 13 November.

Why it mattersAlmost no independent evidence exists about what chatbots do to teenagers. If you study or teach adolescents, this pays for work people usually ask you to donate.
